The Wycombe Savoy show in October 2010 is Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury together with a selection of extracts from some other Gilbert and Sullivan shows which give some clues to the background of the Trial.

We are pleased to have Diane Haylor once again as Production Director. Our thanks to Louise Langley who has taken over the role of Musical Director at short notice.

Trial by Jury is one of Gilbert and Sullivan's earliest works and runs for about 45 minutes. It is set in a courtroom and covers the case of breach of promise of marriage of the apparantly 'pure and innocent' Angelina against the 'ruffianly' Edward  being tried by the 'unbiased' judge who owes his position to to his marriage to a rich attorney's elderly ugly daughter.

Bridal Bloomers explore the back story of Angelina and Edwin, the Plaintiff and Defendant in Trial by Jury illustrated by clues left by Gilbert and Sullivan in the music of some of their most popular shows.

Everyone knows the story of Trial By Jury, how a pure and innocent young girl was jilted at the altar.  However, what isn’t known is this – what brought about this sorry state of affairs? Recently extensive research has uncovered their diaries and in Bridal Bloomers, Wycombe Savoy can bring you a world exclusive – the unexpurgated sorry tale, that the newspapers begged us to sell to them, and the family begged us to keep quiet.

Make your own mind up!
